Getting to Grips with illegal Part-Worn Tyres
Its not often we would consider The Sun as a font of wisdom within our industry, but this issue has started to surface, and could start costing lives…

The Monday Morning Blog: How Four Letters have left people less prepared for winter roads.
“M”. Seems like a fairly non-offensive letter. No real malice. But when you add a few letters and create the word “mild”, it can actually cause a lot more harm than good.
Weather reporters, both locally and nationally, have been using the word “mild” to describe temperatures at the moment - but, people often forget that they are just “mild for this time of year”. We are still wearing jumpers, coats and scarves and the temperatures are still regularly dipping below 7°C, the temperature at which roads become increasingly dangerous and grip on standard tyres decreases.
Winter Tyres are not just for snow. When temperatures dip below 7°C, their compound offers substantially more grip on even the driest of winter roads - couple this with the fact that just one night of clear skies can lead to ground frost and greasy, slippery surfaces; and you double the need for Winter Tyres.
Thankfully, a reminder has been given to us today, as Snow has fallen across Wales and the South-West today; raising awareness once again that it really pays to fit your vehicle with Winter Wheels & Tyres.
We are still supplying the industry with the most comprehensive range of Winter Wheel & Tyre packages, both in Steel and Alloy - and are awaiting another influx of calls regarding these products thanks to this new cold snap.

The Monday Morning Blog: Festive Greetings, Cold Mornings and Safe Driving
It is predicted that over 75% of the country will have awoken to frosty, icy conditions this morning, and for those of us not lucky enough to be in that remaining 25%, that meant a morning of ice scrapers, hot water and de-icer - and that was just to claw ones self out of a nice warm bed!
Once the screens were clean, it was then a tentative drive to work, paying attention to patches of black ice and greasy-feeling surfaces. Never has there been a stronger signal, or a better time to apply winter wheels and tyres.
Temperatures below 7°C have been quoted as the pivot temperature for improved performance with winter tyres, and with the current Sub-0°C temperatures experienced across the country, we really cannot promote the safety and performance benefits enough.
Our range of Winter Wheels & Tyres offer a bolt on solution. Purchasing wheels and tyres together, although seemingly more expensive, is actually a financially astute way of managing your car’s footwear. Changing just the tyres on your existing wheels can cost in excess of £30 per wheel in labour. Doing this in winter, and then back again to all-weather tyres will incur costs of over £200 in the first year alone. We see the investment in Winter Wheels & Tyres as a three year investment (dependent on mileage) - doing even the simplest maths, the investment in wheels and tyres clearly stacks up better against the cost of changing the tyres on existing rims twice a year, let alone the potential damage to be done to the wheels and tyres when changing them.
Bolting on a set of winter wheels and tyres really does make economic sense, as well as protecting your alloy wheel investment. But the main advantage is undoubtedly safety - getting to work, taking the kids to school and travelling to see loved ones is all made safer by the application of winter wheels & tyres.
Demand has been unprecedented, once again, as companies like ourselves have pushed the winter message more than ever before - thus, stocks are depleting quite steadily, so we advise getting a set on your car before stocks inevitably dry up. We invested in a large stock of winter tyres to fit our steel wheels, and still have limited stocks of these tyres available.

This will be the final Monday Morning Blog for 2011, and as we look back on a successful year at Wheelwright HQ, we’d like to wish all our trade customers, blog followers, Facebook friends and fans, Twitter followers and product owners a very Merry Christmas and Happy & Fruitful New Year.
Snow dusting Wheelwright HQ - Winter Wheel Time…
Wheelwright HQ, located in Aylesford, Kent, is receiving its first dusting of Snow for Winter 2011/12 - definitely a strong signal that its time to fit those Winter Wheels & Tyres.
With temperatures regularly dipping below 7°c for the past three weeks, the Snow has just emphasised the need for Winter Wheels & Tyres. Our Team has been inundated with calls for our Winter packages this morning as the snow moves further South.
As you may or may not be aware, Winter Tyre supplies are very erratic and with demand this year being higher than ever before (largely thanks to our promotion of the need for Winter wheels and tyres), we are glad to have stocked up this year - but we advise asking your retailer about winter packages sooner rather than later as stocks are still limited.
We offer direct, bolt-on applications - with packages of winter steel or alloy wheels, mounted with winter tyres.
Winter tyres are designed to perform better in temperatures lower than 7°c. Their rubber compound is softer, meaning it remains supple in the lower temperatures, retaining grip, and their tread is improved with the addition of sipes within the tread pattern, which gather snow and push away moisture to improve grip on slippery winter roads.

The Monday Morning Blog: Customer’s taking advantage of our new Web Developments - and the Winter Weather continues to batter our Sales Team!
Customer’s taking advantage of our new Web Developments.
The first phone call today was from one of our customers: Sheldon’s Tyres in Manchester. Forward thinking, these guys are embracing the web and, more importantly, the support we can offer as a supplier.
Our new website has really taken shape in the past few months (well, its actually taken more like eight!), and we are very excited to release further developments in the New Year, pushing the site even further, and cementing it as an industry leading portal for information and product - but we are equally as excited about the fact that these developments are being embraced by the likes of Daz at Sheldon’s.
He has integrated elements of our site into the Sheldon’s site seamlessly, including banner graphics and our much in-demand configurator. We really do promote our customers to take advantage of the work we do here, and it’s very encouraging to see customers like Daz doing so.

We have also started to help co-develop customer’s sites using our brand new platform, which can essentially “skin” our site to your branding, and will feature our vehicle look-up and accurate fitment information. We will be rolling this out as a fully fledged service in 2012, along with many other developments. The moral is… watch this space in the New Year!

Winter Weather batters our Sales Team.
Last week saw a record number of enquiries for our range of Winter Wheels & Tyres. The cold snap has finally arrived; temperatures are regularly dipping below 7°c; and the flurries of snow seen over the last week have kicked everyone’s mind into gear with regards winter road safety.

We offer a one-stop solution, with both Alloy and Steel wheel & tyre packages available for around 90% of the car-park. Demand has been so high that we have sold out of many popular fitments twice over already! Always ordering more stock, we advise contacting our sales team before the next snowfall as we expect demand to stabilise at a very high level and spike again should snow start to fall south of the Midlands.

The Monday Morning Blog: Winter finally arrives; and we get Festive with the Wheelwright Advent Calendar.
A Winter’s Tale:
In this industry, we’ve been itching to see real winter weather, and the cold snap has finally arrived. An unseasonably mild November has been wiped off the map by a bitterly cold start to December.
Wheelwright HQ is based in Kent, and temperature gauges this morning were hovering (or shivering) around the 2°C mark, certainly time to fit those winter wheels and tyres. But the real proof of the (christmas) pudding is in the arrival of the first dustings of snow. Reports on the television this morning cited snow presence, in addition to that already seen in northern Scotland, as far south as Settle in Yorkshire.
Some of the coldest temperatures can be seen here:

You can view the week’s weather report video and Snow Warning here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/feeds/16025258
So, clarification once again that that winter wheels and tyre investment is very much key to your safety - and the time to fit them is now.
Getting Festive:
Now winter is finally here, we’re getting festive at Wheelwright HQ. We’re offering our retailer one very special offer each and every working day in the lead up to Christmas with our Advent Calendar!
Retailers can log in and view the calendar here:
